You may already have motion-sensing lights inside your garage, but I’d like to share a simple lighting solution that I mentioned in passing in my second Blog post for lighting the first step BEFORE you enter the garage.
“You also may find the lighting useful in a long dark hallway to the front door or a garage door.”
It may not be something that you personally need, but it may be a useful solution for an elderly relative.
I’m focusing on simple DIY solutions that may not require apps or hardware modifications, such as installing smart switches or sensors.
All the garages that I have seen have step(s) going down into a darkened garage, as the light switch is located inside the garage! While motion-sensing lights in the garage may be a good solution, finding a suitable location for sensing the first step may be difficult.
What if you could light up the first step BEFORE you enter the garage?
My Use Case is as the senior walks down the hallway, networked sensor lights not only light their pathway to the garage door but also turn on lights INSIDE the garage for that crucial first step down.
It also works in the reverse direction, when the senior is in the garage and opens the door to the house, the darkened hall pathway is already lighted before them…. without touching any wall switches.
This is all accomplished by just placing a few networked motion lights on the floor…. No app, no sensor bridge, no Wi-Fi, and no Internet connection is required.
Here is a YouTube video of it in action.
This could even be used to light a pathway up the stairs to the second floor. Motion sensor lights at the top and bottom of the stairway would turn on all the motion lights.
